#26

We stole duck eggs from the local farm
and tucked them into plant pots. Refused
our scrambled eggs at breakfast -
bread lining jacket pockets.

We made hairbands out of tail feathers
and sold them in the playground.
In spring we put our ears in gardens
listening for heartbeats.
Glanced out the windows of the attic
checking the sky would not fall down.
